Marco Tavora’s Short Bio

I am a theoretical physicist, data scientist, consultant, writer and entrepreneur. I received my undergraduate degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro in 2000. I obtained my Ph.D. from New York University in 2015 under the supervision of Aditi Mitra, with whom I investigated the properties of many-body quantum systems out of equilibrium. Subsequently, I spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at Yeshiva University under the supervision of Lea F. Santos working on various branches of condensed matter theory, including quantum chaos, spin systems, and many-body localization. In 2017 I co-founded Prior Solutions Strategic Consulting Group, a data-driven consulting company with a client portfolio including several international companies. In 2018 I founded Principia Technologies, a data science consulting company. I am also a prolific popularizer of physics, mathematics, machine learning, and finance through articles on several online publications. For more details check my LinkedIn page and my Medium page.

Myself

My three favorite words are abstraction, unification, and generalization. I am a would-be "bird" according to Freeman Dyson's famous classification.

A Few Important Quotes

Quoting Robert Greene:

We must focus on a purpose or mission in our life. We must not lose touch with our true nature. If this happens, our goals become shaped by those of others. If our work does not satisfy us, our interest eventually vanishes, and the quality of our work suffers. I deeply agree with two quotes by Einstein. One of them is:

“it is a wonderful feeling to recognize the unity of a complex of phenomena that to direct observation appear to be quite separate things."

The other is:

"I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts. The rest are details."

And finally, one by the philosopher Baruch Spinoza:
